Cultural Heritage

Ancient traces in a living landscape

In Capçanes, the landscape is not only contemplated; it is interpreted. Among vineyards, ravines and dry-stone walls lie traces of a remote and silent history that still speaks to us today. The municipality’s cultural heritage is modest yet extraordinary, offering a unique window into understanding the deep relationship between people and their land over time.

Rock art

Capçanes preserves several examples of Levantine-style rock art, declared a Site of Cultural Interest of National Importance. These are figurative representations created thousands of years ago, bearing witness to human presence in the valley during the Neolithic period. They can be visited with an authorised guide and prior reservation, as they are located in delicate and protected areas.

Dry-stone huts

Throughout the municipality, dry-stone walls and constructions shape an emblematic cultural landscape, the result of the artisanal work of generations of farmers. Circular huts, cisterns and walls built without any type of artificial binding are a clear example of traditional architecture adapted to agricultural and climatic needs.
